especially when the lady who passed was the head pasty chef at a well known restaurant. Much to my husband’s dismay, I got lots of cake plates, pans, tools and most of a rolling cooling rack. There were so many good deals, and who can pass up a good deal. This sale was way better than e-bay. I hope there are more like it, but my pocket book doesn’t agree.

Affordable Wedding or Shower Favors
Make your own personalized favors:
Matches..on boxed matches place pretty labels printed on your personal computer with your your names and wedding date.
Candies…on your computer make a pretty label to wrap around Hersey’s minis
Tea bags…on your computer make a pretty tea bag covers and put in store tea bags. You can buy store brand bags, just make sure they have are the ones in a bag. You want to place a bagged tea bag in your tea bag cover.
Purse or pocket size notepads…the dollar store has 4 packs of pretty pocket size notepads, just put a pretty label on them.
Seedling packets…order the packets on line for best price or get them on sale at the end of the season and put a pretty label on them. Last years seeds are still good if kept in a cool dry place.
Tree starters..these are one of my favorites. A lot of organizations sell them as fundraisers. Get them from them or pick them up at a nursery. They are a little starter branch. Put a lovely ribbon with a pretty tag containing your names and wedding date. The guests take them home, plant them, and every time they look at them they remember your wedding. Left overs can be planted at your new home or given to relatives to plant. If you have quite a lot, give them to a local organization for a fun raiser. No waste and a big memory catcher.
Donate to a charity in lieu of favors (with small card for guests to let them know)
Most of the above can be done months in advance, taken off you to-do-list and cost so little.
If you need templates. e-mail me off my web site: http://www.cakesespecially4you.com. I have samples and templates for most of the above. Whatever you do, make it something a guest will enjoy or take home to keep.
Squirt Gun Cake
Groom’s & Tuxes
Groom’s cakes can be anything from frogs to tuxes. This tux is a heart chocolate cake just for the groom.
The groom’s cake is usually created to make the groom feel special too. Every thing at a wedding is “pretty” and a groom cake is made in something the groom would like and usually chocolate as many wedding cakes are not chocolate. But I must say more than 1/2 now have a least one chocolate tier.
Did you know? St. Patrick’s favorite color…..
was blue, not green, and the people of Ireland too weren’t exactly fond of green-according to them it was the color of the Fairies and Leprechauns and, unless you wanted to forcibly join the ranks of these Wee Folks, you would refrain from sporting the color too often. it wasn’t until the 19th century that Green became the official color of Ireland.
Bouquet toss alternaives?
Q: Calling the single ladies to the dance floor is so not my stile. Is there anything fun that I can do instead?
A: If you’re having kids at your reception, you can invite them up for a teddy bear toss. Or throw a bouquet of candy; either will go over big with the little ones!
If it is adults-only, you can do a “marriage appreciation dance.” That’s when the emcee calls all married couples out to the dance floor and gradually asks them to sit based on how long they’ve been married. The pair who’ve been married the longest are the last ones standing. Award them with a bottle of wine or your toss bouquet.
Well, I have me and my kitchen ready, Now what?
- Read the recipe and gather all your ingredients. Now me I lay them out in the order I am going to add them and have them all measured. Yes, I shift all my flour, even if it says it already is. More work, but I know my cakes are going to turn out the best ever.
- Re-read your recipe, checking again the you have all the ingredients. There is nothing worse than to not have something when you are half way thru. My hubby growls, when I say “Oh, NO” He then knows it is off the Wallyworld cause his crazy wife forgot something. He walks out the door saying, “Are you sure that is all you need?” He knows me well.
- Using the best quality ingredients, products the best quality baked goods. I said best quality, not most expensive. Real is always better than imition. Real Chocolate, not chocolated flavored. The use only real flavoring in my cakes and other baked goods, except Vanilla since I need clear and naturally is dark brown.
