Proposals weren’t always done on bended knee.

on blended knee

When I go on blended knee

Chivalrous gentlemen sent a pair of gloves to their true loves. If the woman wore the gloves to church on Sunday, it signaled her acceptance of proposal.

The term “spooning” was coined by lovesick men of Wales. A suitor carved a spoon of wood and presented it to his beloved. If she wore it around her neck on a ribbon, she returned his love and they were engaged.

What do I do with my engagement ring

Should I take off my engagement ring for the ceremony or should my fiance put the wedding band on top of my engagement ring during the exchange?

The wedding band should be the first ring on your ring finger, then the engagement ring.  Rather than fumble at the alter with the switch, stow your engagement ring in a safe place during the ceremony.  If you do not want to part with it, switch it to your right hand before you walk down the aisle.  On the way back to the reception, your new husband can move your engagement ring back to its rightful place.
